Just another case of “workplace violence”?
More than a few facts surrounding this case are likely to be swept under the rug by the media, because they don't “fit the narrative” or for the convenient benefit of the administration.
It was reported earlier that Nolen had tried to convert co-workers to Islam. After Nolen returned to the Vaughn Foods plant where he had been fired, he beheaded 54-year-old Colleen Hufford, before stabbing a co-worker 43-year-old Traci Johnson.
Then the plant's Chief Operating Officer Mike Vaughn, who is a reserve deputy with a permit to carry a firearm, stopped the murderer cold by shooting him. Sgt. Jeremy Lewis of the Moore Police Department said of Vaughn's act, "He’s a hero in this situation. It could have gotten a lot worse.”
Fox reports that the suspect and the second victim are at hospitals in stable condition.
A preferred narrative surrounding the gruesome killing has been that he was just a disgruntled worker doing what disgruntled workers do. Nothing to see here - move along.
The first thing to bear in mind about Nolen is that he had a criminal record. At a 2010 traffic stop, he assaulted a police officer and led the police on a 12-hour manhunt. That is an addition to a drug rap.
Secondly, CNN reports that the attack happened very soon after he lost his job. That means his background history is very important to discerning the motive of the killer.
Thirdly, the Wall Street Journal is now reporting that Nolen converted to Islam in prison, which may have shaped or conditioned how he learned it.
Was Nolen just a distraught man who snapped upon losing his job, or were there tell-tale signs that he was predisposed to killing someone, whether in cold blood or if he were provoked?
