Matt Davis has some unexpected advice for the husbands out there:
“Dude, take the trash out. Because there might be a day when you can't.”
And Matt knows from personal experience. As WTOC News reports, Matt had only been married for seven months when a catastrophic motorcycle crash left him in a coma. His wife Danielle says that the doctors advised her to “pull the plug” on her new husband. Danielle refused.
“I knew that God could get us through that,” she tells WTOC.
“I didn't think it was too big for God.”
It wasn't. Matt spent three months in the coma, and moved from the hospital to their home, where Danielle and her mother cared for him 24/7. Then one day, they heard the sound that proved Danielle's faith in God - and her husband - wasn't misplaced.
Matt said, “I'm trying.”
Matt Davis eventually came out of his coma, but he didn't remember anything that had happened in the last three years. He retained no memory of his father's death, or even meeting and marrying his bride.
Though, as he tells WTOC, that particular revelation was very good news:
“I saw her, and I was like, 'Yeah!'”
As Danielle explained on their GoFundMe page, in the time that has passed since the accident, Matt has made amazing progress. The medications are a thing of the past, and he's even beginning to walk again. The couple is currently trying to raise funds for Matt to continue the therapy that will help him improve his balance, coordination, and quality of life.
Matt desperately wants to be able to help the woman who never lost faith in him, and continues to work hard to recover from his injuries. For Danielle, however, her husband's wonderful heart and disposition is all the motivation she needs.
“One conversation with Matt will change your life,” she writes. "He has a servant's heart and a love for people. He never complains or feels anger about his circumstance.
“He just wants to make a difference and give hope.”
He may have a long road ahead, but Matt's already succeeded in that last wish.
