Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum said on Saturday that the U.S. military should “load up our bombers” and completely destroy ISIS.

Santorum's comments came during the South Carolina Freedom Summit in Greenville, South Carolina, over the weekend. Santorum said:

“If these folks want to return to a 7th Century version of Islam, then let’s load up our bombers and bomb them back to the 7th Century.”

Santorum went on to say that “we need to be clear with the American people what a threat radical Islam presents”:

“Radical Islam is confronting this county. Terror is a tactic, and radical Islam is an ideology.”

Santorum continued on to say that President Obama has made the situation worse by damaging relationships with nations that are allies with the U.S., especially Israel:

"I would be happy if the president were able to tell the difference between our friends and our enemies.

Iran: Enemy. Israel: Friend. Iran will never keep anything that they promise to do."

Santorum, like many other potential 2016 GOP candidates, is taking hardline stances on foreign policy issues. With ISIS becoming more and more of a threat, foreign policy will likely play key role in deciding who takes over the White House in 2016.

Last week, Santorum announced on Twitter that he will be making a “big announcement” in Pittsburgh on May 27th, most likely regarding his 2016 presidential intentions.

Santorum, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2012, currently trails most other potential 2016 GOP candidates in the polls with 2%, according to Real Clear Politics.
