A lot of Twitter users are having a good laugh today following political scientist Ian Bremmer's tweet about Taylor Swift's “TS 1989” clothing line being sold in China.
T.S. 1989 = Tiananmen Square, 1989.
Not the sunniest day in China's long history, the Tiananmen Square Massacre occurred on June 4, 1989, when Chinese troops and security police fired indiscriminately into a group of mostly students- part of nearly 1,000,000 Chinese protesting in Beijing against China's then ultra-repressive government.
At least 300 (possibly thousands — it's never been confirmed) were killed, and over 10,000 were arrested.
In other words, not a great association for a pop star's clothing line.
No word yet on any reaction from Chinese officials. But you can be sure that whatever happens, Taylor will most likely be able to...well, you know:
