Eslam Mohamed made the decision to dine-in at an Olive Garden on Christmas Eve with a group of other Muslim families near Augusta, Georgia.
However, he did not expect the treatment he and his table would receive. As Mohamed wrote in a Facebook post:
"Everyone in the restaurant was knowing that we were Arabs Muslims on the table coz of the language and the ladies were having scarves over their head (Hijab)."
He then included the following picture of a receipt, with handwriting that reads:
"Paid. Merry Christmas. Beautiful family."
Mohamed also provided more details of his experience:
"After finishing we asked for the receipts and the waitress came to us with that receipt in the picture. Yes, someone paid for us and wrote those wonderful words on the receipt. I can't express how this act touched our hearts.
Among all the bad things happening to Muslims and the hate speech that the presidential candidate had made lately, there is still light in the dark, there is still hope within the frustration."
The presidential candidate Mohamed is referring to is likely Donald Trump, who has been publicly outspoken with his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States until security measures can be further examined.
