Hollywood Actress Walks into Starbucks—The Statue She Sees Has Her Asking 'Seriously?'

You may know actress Thandie Newton from her roles in films like "Crash" and "Mission Impossible II."

Well, the 43-year-old just took to Twitter to accuse Starbucks of racial insensitivity.

It started when Newton eyed a bizarre-looking statue that was located at a branch in England:

The caption that accompanied the photo called the coffee chain out:

"Seriously Starbucks?"

"Loin cloth and safari hat on a black child.

Happy New Year circa 19th century."

The statue does, in fact, seem to show a black child wearing a loin cloth and a safari hat, harkening back to England's expansionist history.

The photo riled some folks up on Twitter.

However, the scandal was short-lived.

Starbucks responded almost immediately, and noted that the statue had been removed.

They also issued a statement on the matter, according to Eater:

"Serving as a welcoming place for everyone is core to who we are as a company.

As we became aware of the offense, we immediately removed the figure from our store.

We aim to provide an inclusive environment for all customers and communities in which we serve, and we are working with our partners (employees) to avoid similar incidents from happening in the future.

We apologize for the offense caused."

This isn't the first time Starbucks has been in the news for offending someone.

Earlier this past year, the coffee chain caused something of a scandal when they changed the look of their iconic holiday cup.
