Donald Trump is holding an event tonight in Alabama, where he's drawn massive crowds and taken what was expected to be Ted Cruz territory into his column.
Shortly before landing, Trump boasted of a "big surprise announcement":
Trump has dealt with an increasingly aggressive Marco Rubio in recent days.
The Florida Republican has adopted some of Trump's trollish bluster, mocking him nonstop for his debate performance, "Trump University," his hiring of illegal immigrants and his spray tan.
Ted Cruz has also jumped into the fray, attacking Trump's prior support for abortion as well as his waffling on immigration.
But as Matt Drudge correctly predicted, Trump has just scored a big win over Cruz by securing the endorsement of Sen. Jeff Sessions, the anti-immigration senator from Alabama:
The conservative soul of the US Senate, Jeff Sessions, will endorse Trump this evening at a Huntsville, Alabama rally...
This news will be delivered as a suprise to all 25k Alabamians in attendance at the Trump rally and all participating news media....
Alabama votes on Tuesday, and Trump currently leads. This endorsement will surely help.
