Actor Jeremy Irons isn't new to offending liberal sensibilities—such as equating gay marriage to incest.
So it can't come as a total surprise that in a recent interview in The Guardian to promote the just-released “Batman Vs. Superman,” the actor got on his soapbox about the mental and physical cost of abortion.
It should be noted that Irons is pro choice—but that doesn't mean his views on abortion are positive.
He told The Guardian:
"Take abortion. I believe women should be allowed to make the decision, but I also think the church is right to say it’s a sin.
“Because sin is actions that harm us. Lying harms us. Abortion harms a woman – it’s a tremendous mental attack, and physical, sometimes. But we seem to get that muddled. In a way, thank God the Catholic church does say we won’t allow it, because otherwise nobody’s saying that it’s a sin.”
As you would imagine, Iron's comments have pro-choice people on social media in a furor, despite his actual pro-choice stance:
However, some people, also seemingly ignoring the fact that Irons is actually pro-choice, had his back.
Irons has not issued a statement responding to the anger over his comments yet.
