It seems like only yesterday America was glued to the TV to watch the brand new TLC series, “Jon & Kate Plus 8” about a couple raising twins and sextuplets.
Now, the show is called “Kate Plus 8,” and the dad — Jon Gosselin — is no longer a fixture on the series, or in the household for that matter.
Jon and Kate had a messy and public divorce and their relationship apparently is still strained.
Recently, Jon disclosed a lot to Yahoo! News about his relationship with his kids.
The reality TV star turned deejay claims that on the weekends that he's allowed visitation with his kids, he can only see four of the eight children at a time — with “no control” over which four. Jon also admitted that he hasn't seen his son Collin in a year-and-a-half.
Jon told Yahoo! that the current custody set-up is “unfair” to him, saying:
“It’s unfair of her to do that, considering she claims that she does her best for all my kids. Dah, dah, dah, drama. ‘I’m perfect.’ No one’s perfect, honey. Trust me.”
“People are always like, ‘Oh, I would fight so hard [for a better custody arrangement].’ I’m like, ‘Honey, you don’t have the money to fight that hard. Do you know how expensive court is? You have no idea.’ All the filings — and I do my own filings, then submit them to a law firm for stamp of approval — I have to pay for that. And pay all the court fees in the hopes that you’ll get something out of it. I’ve been going to court for seven years now. Unless you can arbitrate out of it and have a working relationship with the other parent, you’re going to spend a lot of money.”
But of course, there's always another side to the story. And this time, it's being told by Jon's twin daughters: Mady and Cara.
According to People, Mady wants to “set the record straight,” saying:
“He makes it seem like we're being kept from him, which is insane,” Mady states. “He should maybe spend some time thinking about why we don't want to see him, and maybe realize that if he ever does want a relationship with us, talking about us on TV is not the way to make that happen.”
Mady later adds, more pointedly:
“He doesn't even know us. How can he dare to talk about us?”
Kate has also opened up recently about her son Collin's special needs. She is reportedly sending Collin away to a program to help him overcome certain struggles and be the “best him he can be.”
“I’m very upset,” Jon tells Entertainment Tonight. “I love my children very much. I’ve always been there for them and I always will be. It’s shocking."
Kate, who is open about divorce not being an easy road for her children, asserts that, “at the end of the day I just want them to make good choices. And so far they really have been.”
