Mariah Carey is famous for more than just her killer five-octave range. The singer's been known to exude diva behavior — including dressing to kill, but more notably, constantly arriving dramatically late.
This year, Carey is set to perform as the headliner in Times Square for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” on ABC.
But along with a New Year's Eve performance comes the necessity of punctuality.
Page Six spoke to an “NYE insider” who reported Carey is due to perform just before the ball drops. After all of the shows the singer has postponed an hour or two, the producers need her to know that this will not be one of them.
They reportedly assigned a “special team” for the sole purpose of making sure Carey is on time to her performance:
“There’s a team of top producers tasked to get her there on time and shepherd her to the stage.”
Sources revealed to Page Six the exact precautions Carey's “team” has taken to assure her promptness:
“They’ve booked her an apartment at a top Times Square hotel for hair and makeup because they fear she’d never make it from her Manhattan apartment on time.”
Red flags were also raised about Carey's tardiness when the show's producers reached out to her team about the schedule and they reportedly asked for clarification on “when the ball drops exactly.”
Page Six sources joked that the producers should go as far as lying about the time:
“They should have told Mariah 11 p.m., just to be safe.”
Carey is set to begin performing on the Midtown Manhattan stage moments before the ball drops, but it remains to be seen whether the diva will beat the clock or not.
