Pop superstar Lady Gaga began her highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime performance by making a bold statement about America—but not the kind of statement you may have come to expect from celebrities.

Before singing any of her signature songs, Lady Gaga belted out a medley of “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land” with Old Glory displayed in lights behind her. She then recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

There was plenty of speculation that Lady Gaga might use the massive platform to make some sort of political statement, perhaps even about President Donald Trump or his recent executive actions.

Instead, she started her show by showing respect to her country and then delivered a nearly flawless Super Bowl halftime show, especially notable after Beyonce's controversial nod to the Black Panthers last year.

Much of America was thankful to finally have a politics-free Super Bowl:

Gaga out.

What did you think of the Super Bowl halftime show this year?
