The text indicated that Ellison had been endorsed by another candidate, Pete Buttigieg (mayor of South Bend, Indiana), who had just withdrawn his own candidacy an hour earlier. But then came a tweet from Buttigieg:

Meanwhile, they finished counting the first round of ballots. Ellison received 200 votes, while formed Labor Secretary Tom Perez received 213.5 votes - just short of the 214.5 he needed to win. A second vote is pending.
