Martin Hughes

Being a parent isn't always easy. Take it from Martin Hughes, a dad to identical twins.

Hughes says that raising twin girls was initially terrible for his sleeping schedule, especially since they were born two months early. But now that they're four years old his life is getting much easier. They are more flexible while traveling.

And thanks to horror movies, the girls are the perfect props for a vacation prank. The dad recently posted this picture from a hotel in London...

Look familiar?

Hughes told BuzzFeed he likes to dress his girls in the same outfits, ask them to hold hands, and recreate the scene from “The Shining” to prank unsuspecting guests:

“As soon as we found out we were having identical twins I thought 'The Shining.' As they’ve gotten older and we can travel and stay in hotels, it was a given that I’d get them to stand holding hands in the hallway for a joke.”

He hasn't quite nailed the routine yet — he's still teaching them to say, “come and play with us” in unison — but has gotten a fair amount of gasps and turned heads.

Hughes jokingly told Independent Journal Review:

“If you're a parent of twin girls, it's your duty to pull this prank. I've had tons of adult twins tell me they wish their parents had done this with them when they were younger!”

He highly recommends this trick to new parents of twins to remind them there's light at the end of the tunnel. Due to the popularity of his photograph on Twitter, it looks like he may have some copycats on the way:

Hughes was surprised to see thousands of people comment, like, and retweet his picture. He's had a few awkward comments from people threatening to punch his girls and saying that the prank is too scary, but he's responded that he means well.

So if you see two matching twins in the halls of your hotel, don't run away. Start looking for a parent with a sense of humor nearby.
