Family members assumed everything was fine with grandparents Wendy and Randall Bjorge — they were receiving text messages from Wendy.
What they didn't know was that someone else was pretending to be Wendy and covering up a disturbing truth.
According to WSB-TV, the couple's 17-year-old granddaughter, Cassie Bjorge, and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Johnny Rider, allegedly killed Wendy and Randall.
The two reportedly waited for the lights to go off in Wendy and Randall's house before sneaking in to kill them.
Police reported that Cassie and Rider brutally killed the elderly couple using butcher knives to slash their throats, after beating them with a baseball bat, hammer, and tire iron.
The teens then stayed in the house for days with the dead bodies, pretending that Bjorge's grandparents were still alive. They concealed the smell of the bodies by putting caulk around the door. The two even partied in the home with their friends, who had no idea the victims were in the next room.
According to WSBTV, Bjorge and Rider weren't done killing people; they had a hit list of intended victims. Rider's family members and Bjorge's mother were also being targeted by the pair.
The two were captured a week after the grandparents' deaths when they attacked Rider’s sister and her boyfriend, who were luckily able to escape.
After a standoff with the SWAT team, Bjorge confessed to killing her grandparents, while Rider kept quiet.
During a court appearance, Gwinnett County homicide detective Dave Brucz testified about Bjorge's description of her grandparents' killing:
"Johnny began to attack the grandfather. Bjorge then said she had a surge of energy. She then dragged her grandmother into her grandfather’s bedroom. She was duct taped.”
Brucz explained to the court that Bjorge had "basically had enough of her grandparents.”
Bjorge's mother, Amanda Sterling, didn't respond to finding out her daughter and boyfriend planned on killing her. Prior to Bjorge's court appearance, however, she said:
“Not in a million years did I think something like would ever happen.”
The pair has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.
