CNN has reportedly declined to move forward with Reza Aslan's “Believer,” a non-fiction show focusing on different religions around the world, less than a week after Aslan was widely criticized for a now-deleted tweet calling President Donald Trump a “piece of s**t.”

CNN provided the following statement to Independent Journal Review:

“CNN has decided to not move forward with production on the acquired series Believer with Reza Aslan (season two). We wish Reza and his production team all the best.”

Brian Stelter, CNN Senior Media Correspondent and the host of “Reliable Sources,” confirmed Aslan's departure in a tweet:

After deleting his initial tweet in response to the intense backlash, Aslan apologized and released a statement explaining his actions:

Aslan was previously embroiled in a separate controversy after an episode from the first season of “Believer” saw the host eating human brains.
