President Donald Trump has issued a statement following a shooting at a Congressional Baseball Game practice that left several, including Republican Whip Steve Scalise, injured.
The statement released Tuesday morning reads:
“The Vice President and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected.”

Security outside the White House appears to have increased, according to the latest White House pool report. Lafayette Park, which is adjacent to the White House “was more closed off than usual” and Pennsylvania Avenue has been cordoned off with yellow tape and fencing.
President Trump was scheduled to speak at the Department of Labor Tuesday afternoon but has canceled his scheduled public appearances today following the shooting.
