A Japanese broadcaster claimed on Friday that seven members of an American Navy ship went missing after the vessel collided with a merchant ship near Japan.
At least one person was hurt after the USS Fitzgerald collided with the ACX Crystal, a Phillippine-flagged merchant ship. A defense official reportedly said the vessel experienced flooding, the Associated Press reported.
The Japanese Coast Guard was alerted of the collision on Friday and, according to the U.S. 7th Fleet's Facebook page, worked with the U.S. Navy to evacuate a sailor for medical purposes.
