On Wednesday, Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Thomas Homan promised to “double down” on the gang MS-13, and slammed sanctuary cities as “un-American.”
While appearing on “Your World With Neil Cavuto,” Homan reiterated his warning that anyone who entered the country illegally committed a crime. He added that sanctuary cities, who shielded immigrants, didn't represent the America he knew:
“I've been doing this job almost 34 years. Sanctuary cities, in my opinion, they're un-American. That's not the America I grew up in ... it's a community safety issue. For every criminal alien that's a public safety threat, that I can't arrest in the safety, security, and privacy of county jail, one of the fine men and women that work for us have to go knock on a door. It's an officer safety issue. it's a community safety issue. Enough's enough with sanctuary cities.”
Trump's immigration policies, Homan added, had a “strong effect” on enforcement, and, in effect, sent a signal to immigration enforcement authorities that they could start doing their job.
MS-13, in particular, drew Homan's and host Neil Cavuto's attention. “They victimize the very communities they live in,” Homan said of the gang organization, which he described as a “criminal syndicate.”
