Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) pushed back against coverage of his official Twitter account liking a pornographic video, saying it was an “honest mistake” by a staffer and bashing the media for being “obsessed with sex.”

“We had a staffer who accidentally hit the wrong button,” Cruz told CNN Wednesday. “It was an honest mistake, it was not malicious.”

“We have talked to the staffer. It's not going to happen again. It was a screw-up,” Cruz said after being asked if the staffer would be punished.

When pressed for the staffer's name Cruz said: “I'm not going to out the fella. We have dealt with it internally, but I'm not going to throw someone under the bus.”

“I promise you, the staffer feels terrible,” he added.

Cruz also once again denied that he was the one who liked the X-rated tweet.

The Texas senator also fired back at those pointing out the irony that he once pushed for restricting the sales of sex toys. “The attorney general's job is to defend the laws passed by the Texas legislature,” Cruz said. “One of those laws was a law restricting the sale of sex toys. It was a stupid law.”

The former presidential candidate added that “consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in their bedrooms.”

“The media and the left seem obsessed with sex, let people do what they want.”
