During a series of tweets on Saturday night, President Donald Trump harped on the importance of United States-Russia relations and seemed to lament North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's refusal to reciprocate Trump's attempts to befriend him:

In an apparent dig at the stocky North Korean leader, Trump said he would never call Kim “short and fat” even though he called him “old.”

As part of the ever-growing tension between the two nations, North Korea's state news agency called Trump a “lunatic old man.”

“No one can predict when the lunatic old man of the White House, lost to senses, will start a nuclear war,” state media said, according to BBC.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump praised Chinese President Xi Jinping for committing to ramping up sanctions in an effort to pressure North Korea into denuclearizing:

Trump also pushed for improved relations with Russia, suggesting that others thought good relations between the U.S. and Russia was disadvantageous:

And as Trump is wont to do, he attacked “Crooked Hillary Clinton” for failing as secretary of state to befriend Russia:

Former President Barack Obama, Trump added, “had zero chemistry with” Russian President Vladimir Putin.
