“I’m incredibly proud to have served with him,” Biden said on “The View” Friday afternoon. The former vice president, and now 2020 presidential candidate, said he and Obama share the same outlook on what they were most proud of in their eight years of office.
“Not one single whisper of scandal,” Biden said. “Not one single whisper. And that’s Barack Obama. That’s because of Barack.”

While Biden, Obama, and other Democrats like to make this point, conservatives have fired back on this claim before. As IJR Red previously reported, controversies such as Operation Fast and the Furious and the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Lybia are incidences where the Obama presidency’s “no scandals” claim is left with a glaring asterisk.
The Trump campaign and administration, on the other hand, has faced an onslaught of scandals and investigations.
The Mueller investigation alone detailed a number of these scandals, from Donald Trump Jr. accepting a meeting with Russians to get dirt on Hillary Clinton to Trump’s campaign chair Paul Manafort sending internal polling data to Russian oligarchs. In total, six former Trump advisers have been indicted based on the special counsel’s investigation — many of them now face jail time.
One of Trump’s biggest scandals happened in the weeks before he was elected when an Access Hollywood tape of the candidate bragging about sexually assaulting women was revealed, words that fueled a look into the 23 women who have accused Trump of sexual misconduct.
One of the other more eye-brow raising scandals came after it was revealed Trump ordered his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen to pay off adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their alleged sexual affair which Daniels has now detailed publically since Trump took office.
Then there were the scandals that were a direct result of policies of the president and his administration. Mainly, the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy of undocumented people that separated thousands of migrant children from their parents.
Biden’s claim that there was “not one single whisper” of scandal in the eight years of the Obama administration is questionable. But Obama’s successor has been rocked with scandals on a scale far greater than any that faced his administration.
