Father of Freed North Korean Prisoner Otto Warmbier Disbelieves Regime’s Claims

Fred Warmbier, father of Otto Warmbier, who was held prisoner in North Korea for 15 months, addressed reporters Thursday morning. While in internment, Otto fell into a coma, and according to the North Koreans, he was in a comatose state for the bulk of his imprisonment

In his statement, Fred Warmbier said he does not believe the North Koreans’ account that Otto fell into his coma as a result of botulism and a sleeping pill.

Fred Warmbier was extremely critical of the North Korean regime, led by dictator Kim Jong Un.

He said:

“North Korea is a pariah regime. They’re brutal, and they’re terroristic. You can’t believe anything they say. We see the results of their actions with Otto, so it’s all speculation,”

His father did not speak to Otto’s current medical state and referred questions on it to Otto’s medical team that will be briefing the press later in the day.

While Otto’s return was a diplomatic effort carried out by both the Obama and Trump administrations, Fred Warmbier appeared more thankful for the current administration than the former.

Fred was asked, “You thanked President [Donald] Trump and then you also said that the past administration didn’t do enough. So do you feel like President [Barack] Obama should have been doing more to help?”

Otto’s father answered, “I think the results speak for themselves.”

CNN has reported that Otto is suffering from a “severe neurological injury.”
