Hillary Clinton Spox Issues Curious Warning: ‘If You See a Whopper of a WikiLeaks in Next Two Days…’

A top Hillary Clinton campaign official is warning supporters of a possible “whopper of a WikiLeaks” in the next two days, claiming it will “probably” be a “fake.” Election Day is on Tuesday.

Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton campaign communications director, sent out the alert Sunday on Twitter, sparking plenty of speculation over what she might know. It’s unclear whether Palmieri actually has any advanced knowledge of a potential leak or if she is just attempting to preemptively protect the campaign from any final surprises from WikiLeaks.

Politico’s Blake Hounshell asked bluntly, “Based on what?”

Palmieri responded: “the director of national intelligence statement from last month.”

It’s true that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a joint statement with the Department of Homeland Security that it’s likely Russia is attempting to “interfere” with the U.S. election process by facilitating high-profile email hacks on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks. However, nowhere in the statement does the director of national intelligence assert that the emails are fake.

Read part of the statement below:

The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts. These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow—the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there. We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.

Given the way the 2016 election has gone so far, anything could happen in the final days before the election. We won’t have to wait long to find out.
