Two years of Colin Powell emails have been hacked, according to new reports, with the most recent emails sent as recently as August of this year.
According to a report in the Daily Caller, a group called DCLeaks obtained roughly 30,000 emails from hackers that have not been named. Powell told the Daily Caller that he wasn’t aware of any hack, adding that he hoped journalists would respect his status as:
“a private citizen.”
Among the emails was a chain from fellow Republican Christie Whitman, the former New Jersey Governor, on whether he’d endorse Hillary Clinton. Powell replied that he’d wait until the fall to endorse, saying he hadn’t made a decision.
But the emails also revealed the pressure Powell has faced from “Hillary’s mafia” over her email scandals.
As Independent Journal Review readers will recall, the Clinton campaign has been spinning the blame for her private emails, citing Republicans such as Powell who also used their own emails.

Powell has responded, saying she used the server for:
“a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did.”
Now the emails show that there was quiet drama between Powell and Clinton staffers back in 2015.
The Daily Caller’s Chuck Ross notes a thread between Powell and Cheryl Mills, who was Clinton’s chief of staff:
“You really don’t want to get me into this,” he wrote in a March 7, 2015 email. “I haven’t been asked nor said a word about HRC and won’t unless you all start it.”
Mills replied saying “agree and that message has been clearly shared.”
“so she will not nor will anyone she controls,” Mills continued, adding that “I can’t address folks who are beyond that so please ping or call me when you see anything that worries you.”
That flared back up just 10 days later, with Powell telling Mills about remarks by James Carville:
“James is out there screaming away about me and Jeb doing the same thing and getting away with it. Not only is he factually wrong it ain’t working He is just throwing more logs on her fire. Not knowing if anybody is controlling him (unlikely) I don’t think it helps you all,” Powell wrote.
“Got it – not sure he will listen to me (he hasn’t in the past) buy I will reach out to him tomorrow when I land back in DC,” Mills replied.
With messages like her comments on Trump’s “basket of deplorables” and her continued effort to portray him as dangerous for national security, Clinton continues to try to earn the support of centrist and establishment Republicans.
These emails shine a spotlight on the communication backchannels between powerful D.C. figures, and we’ll continue to dig through them for news that Americans want to read.
