In First 10 Seconds, Sheriff David Clarke Brought RNC Crowd to Its Feet with ‘Very Clear’ Message

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke made a forceful declaration that “Blue Lives Matter in America” during his remarks before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Monday night.

His statement was received by a round of applause and chants of “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” among those in attendance at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, in what could easily be considered the loudest applause of the night.

Harkening on the night’s theme of “Making America Safe Again,” the Milwaukee County Sheriff said:

“I believe that this noble mission is not just a requirement but a prerequisite for achieving this campaign’s goal of ‘Making America Great Again’.”

Clarke went on to add:

“What we witnessed in Ferguson and Baltimore and Baton Rouge was a collapse of the social order.

So many of the actions of the Occupy Movement and Black Lives Matter transcends peaceful protest and violates the code of conduct we rely on. I call it anarchy.”

He also spoke of the slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who “wrote passionately about the inter-relatedness of all communities and states and about our inescapable network of mutuality, tying us in a single garment of destiny” in his 1963 “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.”

Clarke continued:

“He spoke of the basic morality of the rule of law, provided that it is applied equally to both the wealthy and the impoverished, both men and women, and yes, the majority and the minority.”

As for why Clarke, a registered Democrat, is supporting Trump in 2016? He told delegates in the crowd:

“Donald Trump understands that what can make our nation safe again is a recommitment to a justice system in which no government official, not even those who have fought their way to the marble and granite halls of Washington; no private citizen, not even Hillary Clinton; and no group of people, despite the fervor with which they press forward their grievances, can claim privilege above the law.”

Stay tuned to throughout the week for the latest on the Republican National Convention.
