Muslim YouTuber Who Said He Was Kicked Off Flight Over Racism Must’ve Thought No One Would Fact Check

YouTube provocateurs Adam Saleh and Slim Albaher say they were on a Delta Airlines flight to come back home to New York City when they were tossed off for scaring other passengers.

The New York Times reports the two were on the Delta flight from London to New York when they were kicked off for causing “a disturbance in the cabin that resulted in more than 20 customers expressing their discomfort.”

Saleh claimed he was just talking to his mother on the phone in Arabic.

He says the other passengers — and Delta — are “racist,” but the passengers who were shaken by his actions had an entirely different take on the matter.

Saleh has made a YouTube career out of doing video pranks, some of which are aimed at spooking airline passengers. Though his intent might seem to be just to frighten people with these pranks, he insists his “social experiments” call attention to irrational and “racist” reactions to people speaking Arabic or dressing the part.

Saleh chalks up their fear to racism — passengers who express concern, on the other hand, may fear they may be on another 9/11 terror flight, or on another Flying Imam flight, or another Operation Bojinka flight, or another underwear bomber flight, or another shoe bomber flight…you get the picture.

Let’s take a look at some of the videos the Muslim duo’s made on the topic…

In this video called “Counting Down in Arabic on a Plane Experiment,” Saleh and Albaher consider that they could get kicked off the plane for freaking people out. Though they didn’t get kicked off that time, they did succeed in alarming several people:

In this video called “Never Wear This on a Plane in America,” Saleh changes his clothes to traditional Arabic attire to see if people will be “racist” around him:

In another video called “Arabs on a Plane,” he makes a costume change in the waiting area and goes onboard the plane to see if there’s rude reaction to his antics:

Considering history, being frightened could be an entirely reasonable response to some of these stunts.

As he was being kicked off the flight, the filmmaker recorded himself explaining that the reason was that he spoke a different language. As he recorded, you can hear the other passengers yell “goodbye!” and see them wave as he leaves. One woman even flipped him off:

The filmmaker explained the experience via live video streaming app Periscope, even breaking down in tears at one point:

As he was back in the terminal capturing his tears on camera, there were people already throwing shade on his story.

They were quick to call out his history of similar incidents on planes after the most recent Delta incident was publicized by Saleh on his social media accounts:

Former TV newswoman Soledad O’Brien had a friend on board the flight and tweeted that some of the passengers disputed story about the prankster “calling his mom”:

The friend told O’Brien that another passenger had alerted airline staff the guy was a well-known YouTube provocateur:

Another popular YouTuber, Mark Dice, was suspicious of Saleh’s story from the get-go because of his previous pranks:

Delta issued a statement:

And as quickly as some were dismissing the incident as a prank, there were others calling it straight up racism:

The New York Times spoke to Saleh before he boarded another plane home and he says he wasn’t pulling one of his pranks:

In a phone interview Wednesday from Heathrow before he and Mr. Albaher boarded a new flight, Mr. Saleh insisted this was not a stunt: “The only thing I can say is, I would never film a phone video. That’s when it’s really serious, and I must film.” His video camera was in his luggage.

Lawnewz reports that Delta says its investigation so far showed that Saleh disrupted the cabin with shouting:

Upon landing the crew was debriefed and multiple passenger statements collected. Based on the information collected to date, it appears the customers who were removed sought to disrupt the cabin with provocative behavior, including shouting. This type of conduct is not welcome on any Delta flight. While one, according to media reports, is a known prankster who was video recorded and encouraged by his traveling companion, what is paramount to Delta is the safety and comfort of our passengers and employees.

The airline said it’s clear that the pranksters were trying to violate their company policies.
