Nearly 200,000 Baby Socks Were Delivered to Speaker Ryan’s Office. The Reason Is a Powerful One…

Students for Life of America (SFLA), the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization, showed up on Capitol Hill Wednesday to deliver a powerful message to Congress.

It took along 200,000 baby socks to make sure no one missed the message.

To be precise, SFLA showed up with 196,543 socks as part of their effort to urge Congress to defund Planned Parenthood, as described on its website.

“We held our massive #Sockit2PP rally on the Capitol Hill Lawn and put pressure on Congressional leaders to keep their promise and defund Planned Parenthood.

We carted 196,543 little baby socks to the rally, piling them high as a representation of the number of abortions Planned Parenthood commits.

Each baby sock represented one child that was aborted at the hands of Planned Parenthood.”

SFLA president Kristan Hawkins said in a statement that the federal government shouldn’t be in the business of funding Planned Parenthood.

“There is no excuse for the government to keep funding Planned Parenthood. These socks represent all the women betrayed by the abortion industry and their pre-born babies who will never be able to wear the baby socks because of Planned Parenthood.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), one of the rally speakers, said the group’s movement is less about “legislation” and “compulsion,” and more about awareness and “human dignity.”

“We need to have images like this so people start to reflect on the magnitude of the suffering that’s happening out there.

Our movement is not primarily about legislation. Our movement is not primarily about compulsion. This movement is not primarily about power. It’s about celebrating human dignity, and talking about the gift of life.”

Following a declaration from Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez last week that, moving forward, the DNC will only provide support to Democratic candidates who support abortion, Sassed fired off a tweet at Perez.

Noting Perez’s Twitter bio, in which he vows to fight for “the little guy,” Sasse tweeted a powerful message — and equally powerful image:

According to The Blaze, former Planned Parenthood manager Sue Thayer told the rally: “There should be little feet in all of these socks.”

SFLA isn’t finished collecting baby socks, by the way.

“The number is over halfway to our goal of collecting 323,999 baby socks, which is how many abortions Planned Parenthood did last year.

If you haven’t sent us in a sock, do it! We are still collecting socks and trying to make it to our goal.”

The group ultimately plans to donate the socks to crisis pregnancy centers.

Incidentally, the Senate voted in March to roll back a “last minute” Obama administration regulation that prohibited states from withholding funds from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

Vice President Mike Pence cast the tie-break vote after Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voted with the Democrats against the bill.
