When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) went to the White House to meet with Trump on Wednesday, she apparently irked the president’s adviser, Kellyanne Conway, when she refused to talk to the president through Conway — but the House speaker doesn’t seem too worried.
“Do you have a direct response to the president?” Conway asked Pelosi during a back-and-forth that was first reported by the New York Times. But the speaker of the House said that she was speaking with the president, not his staff.
“That’s really pro-woman of you,” Conway shot back sarcastically.
Then on Thursday morning, Conway told the press that Pelosi treats her like staff. As IJR Red reported, during a Fox News interview, she said Pelosi “treats everybody like they’re her staff. She treats me like I’m either her maid or her driver or her pilot or her makeup artist.”

But Pelosi refused to continue the feud that Conway appears to be trying to drum up.
“I’m not going to talk about her,” she said during her press conference the same day. “I responded as the speaker of the House to the president of the United States. Other conversations people want to have among themselves is up to them.”

Of course, as speaker of the House, Pelosi is probably the most powerful woman in the United States. She’s second in line to the presidency and oversaw her party’s takeback of the lower chamber last November.
And as a politician, she almost never makes a misstep. In 2018, she famously called some employee bonuses “crumbs,” and it was such a rare mistake that it was dragged across headlines for months.
Additionally, Pelosi seems to have the begrudging respect of Trump. The president, who has given a nickname to every single political figure who has ever threatened or offended him, doesn’t have one for Pelosi.
