Sean Spicer Has a Secret Weapon in the Briefing Room

Nearly every journalist in Washington has something to say about new White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, but perhaps it’s what they’re missing that makes the best story.

In a week that’s featured him scolding the media, heatedly debating perceived unfair criticism with a member of the press corps, and the airing of his years-long tirade against a novelty ice cream brand, Sean Spicer is probably ready to stop seeing his name in headlines.

Sean Spicer’s first White House press briefings might not have been received well by everyone, but one Politico reporter noticed something beautiful about Spicer’s briefings:

During his Wednesday briefing, the White House press secretary was wearing a rainbow beaded friendship bracelet, with a simple message: “Dad.” Spicer has two children and the rainbow bracelet was made by Spicer’s son.

But the bracelet wasn’t new today: we looked back and saw that this simple reminder of his family is something that Spicer carries with him all the time in his new role as White House Press Secretary.

Spicer was first seen wearing the bracelet to the Inauguration last Friday:

The bracelet has been visible at every press briefing Spicer has given this week. On Monday:

When Spicer taped a segment with FNC’s Sean Hannity on Tuesday evening, his bracelet was on full display:

Even during his highly controversial and heavily criticized statement to the press corps on Saturday, Spicer carried with him that message from his family:

It’s unclear when or why exactly Sean Spicer started wearing the bracelet, but it’s beautiful to see him carry such a visible reminder of his commitment to his family with him everywhere.
