Singer Tweets About Taking DNA Test. 1% of the Results Get Her Called ‘Racist’ and Force Her to Apologize

On Friday, pop singer Demi Lovato, 24, eagerly went on to Twitter to share with her fans the results of a recent DNA test she took..

But her seemingly innocent tweets have since landed her in hot water.

Lovato said that she decided to take a DNA test after a family member got some interesting results from their test.

When the results finally came in, the songstress proudly told fans that she was mostly of Spanish descent, but got a surprise result. She wrote on Twitter:

But it was her next tweet that ignited a firestorm on social media.

She wrote:

That was apparently enough to anger a huge number of social media users, who disliked the fact that the “white singer” was “claiming to be black.”

There was so much backlash towards the 24-year-old that she had to post a tweet explaining herself. She wrote:

“Just thought it was cool and totally random.”

But then she acknowledged that the fallout from her simple tweet had gotten out of hand:

“Some of y’all are mean af. Twitter sucks.”

She later tweeted directly at one of her critics, and pointed out that she had shared many nationalities from her DNA test.

Lovato recently returned from Africa after doing charity work at the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. The cause is close to her heart, and she has done a large amount of volunteer work in Africa in the past, according to the Daily Mail.

But that doesn’t seem to mean much to her haters.

Following the social media madness, Lovato seems to have taken a step away from her Twitter account.

She hasn’t posted anything since the incident on Friday.
