Former Texas Governor Rick Perry has spent his entire career in politics.
From being elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1984 to becoming governor sixteen years later, and his recent bids for president in 2012 and 2016, it’s clear that politics is where Perry feels comfortable.
But this September, Gov. Perry is about to step outside his comfort zone as he joins the cast of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” He has stated that he’ll be using this platform to advocate for veterans:

As governor of Texas, Perry was an outspoken supporter of veterans’ rights. He continues to do so today, regularly speaking out against shortcomings of the Veterans Administration:

As Fox News reports, the former Texas governor will become the show’s second former politician to hit the dance floor. In 2009, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay participated alongside partner Cheryl Burke, but stress fractures reportedly took him away from the series.
