Jon Favreau, former speechwriter for President Barack Obama, admits in a recent episode of “Pod Save America” that they were wrong to criticize former presidential candidate Mitt Romney over his stance on Russia.
The Washington Free Beacon reports that a former Jeb Bush spokesman was a guest on the podcast and said “that was one of our top complaints about ya'll's old boss, that he wasn't standing up to Russia where it was trying to undermine our influence everywhere in the world.”
“Look, I'm willing to say that in 2012 when we all scoffed at Mitt for saying that, gee, Russia was our No. 1 geopolitical foe, think we were a little off there,” Favreau admitted.
Co-host Dan Pfeiffer, former senior adviser to Obama, said he stood by the 2012 criticism.
During the 2012 election, Democrats made it a point to hit Romney on his “Cold War thinking.”
During the now-famous exchange Favreau mentioned, Obama responded to Romney's concerns about Russia by saying: “The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because, you know, the Cold War has been over for 20 years.”
