Son of legendary minister Billy Graham, Franklin, opened Donald Trump's large rally in Phoenix on Tuesday evening with a prayer. Much of the prayer was directed at healing and the well-being of America, but one particular sentence was aimed directly at people who “preach hate” at Trump.
“We ask tonight for your help. There are those in this country who want to divide, who want to preach hate. And father, it is my prayer that you will shut their mouths like you shut the mouths of the lion years ago.”
“Tonight, I pray especially for our president, President Donald J. Trump, as he leads the United States during these difficult and troubled days. I pray that you will protect him and Melania, the family. Give them your wisdom. Fill him with grace and humility and empower him with your strength, your strength from on high.”
You typically don't hear cheers from an audience during a solemn prayer, but the audience erupted in applause at the line.
