President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump led White House staff in a special moment of silence in remembrance of the deadly 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

The president and first lady emerged from the White House, their faces expressionless. At the sound of a haunting chime, the moment of silence began as Trump and the first lady bowed their heads in respect.

Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed on September 11, 2001, in the deadliest terror attack in U.S. history.

Terrorists hijacked two planes and flew them into the Twin Towers in New York City, killing thousands. The radical Islamist attackers hijacked a third plane, United Flight 93, that was brought down in Pennsylvania by brave passengers who fought back against the terrorists. A fourth plane crashed into the Pentagon.

Watch the haunting moment of silence for 9/11 victims and heroes below.

Never forget.
