After a slew of allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, one joke made at an Oscars event in 2013 by Seth MacFarlane has taken on a more grim meaning.
After listing the nominees for best supporting actress, the “Family Guy” creator and director of the “Ted” film series said, “Congratulations, you five ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein.”
In a Twitter post Wednesday afternoon, MacFarlane offered some context for the remark in light of increased attention on it following the Weinstein accusations:

Saying the joke “came from a place of loathing and anger,” MacFarlane condemned Weinstein's actions and commended Jessica Barth's decision to go public.
Barth, similarly, supported MacFarlane's statement:
To the people slamming Seth for not “doing” anything, please STOP! He stood by me and respected my wishes that he not retaliate in any way. https://t.co/0mlKILP1Gi

Weinstein's wife has reportedly decided to leave him, and Weinstein says he is in counseling.
