A disturbing pattern has emerged, one of many such disturbing patterns, with Donald Trump's handling of American military deaths. Last weekend, he was silent about the killings of three U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. Before that, he failed to issue a statement about the killing of a U.S. Navy SEAL in Somalia, even though his administration was asked for just such a statement.
This weekend, Trump tweeted about the then-missing sailors whose bodies were eventually found aboard the Navy Destroyer USS Fitzgerald following a collision with a Japanese ship, but his tweet came the day after the accident, and didn't even give the missing sailors a full sentence.
But even after the identities of the slain sailors were released Sunday evening, neither Trump nor his White House released a statement about the deaths. And it's not as though the military wasn't on his mind since he found time to compliment them on their stewardship of Camp David:
Trump did spend his weekend tweeting about weighty issues like his polling numbers, the “Witch Hunt” he's trying to obstruct, and the innermost thoughts of Diamond and Silk, but not a syllable about these slain sailors.
Seriously, what the hell is wrong with this guy?
