The Side of ‘Grandpa’ Trump in the White House You Have Never Seen Before

To say President Donald Trump is having a bad week would be an understatement.

Trump started the week by firing his National Security Advisor in the midst of scandal. Then his nominee for Secretary of Labor withdrew his name from consideration. When Trump held a last-minute press conference to address these two events, he ended up in a heated confrontation with the media.

So what did Trump do on Friday to cap off another rough week in the White House? He shrugged off all of his critics and spent some much-needed time with his family.

President Trump was scheduled to visit a Boeing plant in South Carolina before heading off to Mar-a-lago for the weekend. His daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and their children waited with him in the Oval Office for Marine One to arrive:

Soon enough, Trump was ready to head for Marine One. But Ivanka and Jared Kushner didn’t take their kids to board the helicopter, their grandfather did:

President Trump walked along the South Lawn of the White House holding hands with three-year-old Joseph and five-year-old Arabella Kushner.

The president and his granddaughter, Arabella, stopped to wave to the cameras. But Joseph continued on, and of course, Grandpa Trump was ready to catch up with him once the cameras stopped snapping:

When it came time to board the helicopter, Joseph had some trouble reaching the steps. Like any good grandfather, Trump held his hand tightly and gave him a subtle lift so he could reach:

Jared and Ivanka could only smile as they followed along and watched their children spend some quality time with their grandfather:

Perhaps Jared and Ivanka smiled because of just how much their lives have changed in a matter of months. They uprooted their family and moved to Washington:

But their children appear to be handling all of this change fairly well:

Because while their lives might have changed drastically, and their grandfather is now one of the most important people in the world, this latest family moment proves that he will always still be just that:

Their grandfather.
