‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Has News for People Mad at Her Co-Star for Wearing a Fat Suit

It’s no secret that in the world of Hollywood, people are always being judged by how they look.

However, while most are being critiqued for being too heavy, one actor has found himself being scrutinized for not being big enough.

It was recently revealed that “This Is Us” actor Chris Sullivan, who plays Toby on the show, has been wearing padding to make himself look heavier:

Once the news broke, Sullivan was reprimanded by fans for not being “authentic”:

However, not all see Sullivan as a phony.

During an interview with Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live” Thursday evening, “This Is Us” actress Chrissy Metz came out in defense of her co-star.

Metz explained that Sullivan simply was the right guy for the job, adding that he has been bigger in the past so he knows what it’s actually like:

“We tested a lot of gentlemen who were bigger, and I get it — people think the authenticity is kind of ruined by that.

But Chris has been heavier, so I think he understands the plight of being overweight,”

“Also he was just the best man for the job. And people wear prosthetics all the time — it’s just weight as opposed to, like, a nose or a chin. It’s just kind of the name of the game.”

Metz actually wore a fat suit herself when she played the fictitious Barbara Wiggles on “American Horror Story”:

She explained that being that big was a sobering experience:

“It was sobering. I thought, ‘What if I become that heavy and can’t walk around or get stuck in the doorframe? I was like, ‘I don’t want this for me.’ ”

On the show, which won “Best Television Series – Drama” at the Golden Globes, Metz and Sullivan are engaged. Much of their storyline centers around their struggles with weight.
