Timing Is Everything: What Hollywood Thought of Donald Trump before He Was President

Hollywood hasn’t been shy in its condemnation of President Donald Trump. Actors and other celebrities created PSA videos, made award show speeches, and attended numerous protests and rallies.

So, Independent Journal Review took a look at Tinseltown before January 20, 2017, to find out just how much distance has been placed between the White House and the Hollywood sign.

On Season 4 of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Donald Trump was serenaded with applause and cheers as he stepped through the doorway and into camera view.

Although another actor now mocks the president almost weekly on “Saturday Night Live,” it doesn’t appear to always have been that way.

In 2017, Tiffany Trump was faced with fashion mean girls when some editors moved their seats at the Philipp Plein show during NYC Fashion Week, so they didn’t have to sit next to her.

During the pilot episode of the hit show, “Sex and the City,” Samantha Jones used Trump’s name to positively characterize Carrie’s future love interest, Mr. Big.

Later in the series, Donald Trump even made a cameo.

Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue and a Clinton supporter, met with President Trump after the election:

However, their post-election meeting was hardly the beginning of the friendship.

In 2012, Trump proudly supported his good friend in the possibility she’d be given an ambassador position. Us Weekly reported that he said:

“I don’t view it as a favor. I think this is a favor to the country. She’s a very capable person, a very good friend of my wife Melania and mine, but a very, very fine person and she’s tough and she’s smart and she gets it.”

Actress Lena Dunham was a staunch supporter of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

But, in a 2013 episode of the show “Girls,” which she co-produced, one character encouraged her boyfriend to go see the future president speak.

In the scene, a character named Shoshanna told another character, Ray:

“The learning annex is doing a 3 day seminar on entrepreneurship and on the last day Donald Trump is speaking and I totally think you should do it. It’s like, $139 which sounds like a lot, but is actually totally worth it since they teach you how to be a millionaire.”

When Ray asked for clarification that Shoshanna wanted him to go see Trump speak, she gave an emphatic “yes.”

According to The Daily Mail, musician Sir Rod Stewart spent some “carefree” days at Mar-a-Lago with Donald Trump.

Stewart reportedly said Trump isn’t “made to be president,” but claimed his politics are separate from their friendship.

However, one of the biggest revelations in how blurred the line between personal and political has become is the friendship between the Clintons and the Trumps:
