What Top NFL Quarterback Just Said About Colin Kaepernick Is Going to Make His Fans Furious

Colin Kaepernick might not be in the NFL any longer, but that didn’t stop over 200 players from protesting during the national anthem last weekend.

Some teams didn’t join in the protest, as the Carolina Panthers all stood during the anthem.

But that might be subject to change after what Panthers quarterback Cam Newton said about Kaepernick this week. While other NFL players have applauded the former QB’s political activism, Newton took things to a whole new level.

During an interview with the Charlotte Observer, Newton hinted the Panthers might protest at their next game. Then, he brought up Kaepernick.

“My hat goes off to the Colin Kaepernicks of the world,” Newton said. “He’s made the ultimate sacrifice and I respect that wholeheartedly. I can’t let a moment go by without shedding light to that: A person that does have the talent to play, a person that should be in this league, but I feel as if he’s not getting his just due because of his views.”

Then, Newton used one word to describe Kaepernick that may have his fans who want NFL players to stand during the anthem withdrawing their support.

“But that’s a legend, right there. For him to think outside of himself, to raise awareness of something that, this is 365 days removed from his first initial stand, and now here we are doing the same things. And now everybody is kind of understanding what his reasoning was, and I respect that,” Newton added.

Newton is one of the most famous players in the NFL.

Yet, as the majority of Americans do not support the anthem protests, the quarterback has taken a huge risk with his glowing endorsement of Kaepernick.
