After turning down the job of White House press secretary and playing coy as to whether she would work inside the West Wing at all with President-elect Donald Trump, this morning a release from the transition team announced Kellyanne Conway would indeed have a valuable administration position, reprising her role as right-hand counselor to the soon-to-be president.
Said Trump in a statement:
“Kellyanne Conway has been a trusted advisor and strategist who played a crucial role in my victory. She is a tireless and tenacious advocate of my agenda and has amazing insights on how to effectively communicate our message. I am pleased that she will be part of my senior team in the West Wing.”
During the campaign, it was the addition in July of Conway as Trump’s campaign manager that put the candidate in closer contention with Hillary Clinton; many political watchers cited the pollster’s guidance and strategy as a turning point for Trump, one that ultimately secured his win.
Thursday’s press release on her confirmed administration post outlined Conway’s new objectives:
“In her position, Conway will continue her role as a close advisor to the president and will work with senior leadership to effectively message and execute the Administration’s legislative priorities and actions.”
On Fox News Wednesday, Conway hinted a decision about her future was close, letting it be publicly known she and her family—she is married with four young daughters—would pack up their New Jersey home and move to Washington:
“My family is going to move to Washington, D.C., and I will either stay outside and run the political super-structure, or I will go into the West Wing and take a position right next to the president. I just want to find my best and highest use.”
Apparently, she chose the latter.
“I want to thank the President-elect for this amazing opportunity. A Trump presidency will bring real change to Washington and to Americans across this great nation. I am humbled and honored to play a role in helping transform the movement he has led into a real agenda of action and results.”
Conway has spent more than two decades as one of the premier political pollsters in the industry, forming her own company, The Polling Company/WomenTrend.
Over the past several weeks, Conway has been involved in the discussions surrounding the selection of several high-level staff, as well as the Cabinet, and is consistently a regular presence at the side of PEOTUS Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
