Former Obama Adviser Van Jones Explains Why Hillary Lost: 'She Was Running Against an Orange Nightmare!'
During an appearance on Monday's “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” current CNN contributor and former Obama adviser Van Jones revealed to the host why Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.
The 11th-hour letter to lawmakers from FBI Director James Comey about Hillary's emails? Nope. Alleged Russian cyber attack against Democrats prior to the election? Not at all.
No, The Donald beat Hillary... because he was “orange.”
“So far, what you hear is: it was the Comey letter, it was the Russians, all this stuff. And that’s true. But she was running against an orange nightmare! She should have won by fifty states! I don’t want to hear about the Russians right now.”
In a somewhat more reflective comment about his own party, Jones acknowledged the real reason Hillary lost.
“People didn’t feel that we know what it meant to be a coal miner, what it meant to be a Rust Belt worker. So, people didn’t feel the love.”
Coal miners. Speaking of which, Hillary infamously said, “we're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of work.”
“Orange” or not, that's not a high bar for a presidential candidate to clear in West Virginia.
Hillary later tried to clarify her comment, saying “I don't know how to explain it other than what I said was totally out of context from what I meant. It was a misstatement.”
The “orange” man easily capitalized on that “misstatement,” winning West Virginia over Hillary, 67.9 percent to 26.2 percent.
