American Sniper broke huge records this past weekend.
The movie took in an estimated $90.2 million, breaking the January record for highest grossing weekend opening, last set by Avatar in 2010. It is also the highest grossing January Friday opening at $30.5 million, previously set by Cloverfield in 2008 at $17.2 million.
The movie was a huge hit, with expectant audiences waiting in long lines. Twitter users posted their reactions to the huge turnout.
And it wasn't just in a few theaters, but all over the country:
With celebrities such as Jesse Ventura and Michael Moore attacking the character of Chris Kyle, upon whose story the movie is based, it seems safe to say that a whole lot of Americans see it differently.
