Celebrities are often seen as an idealized version of beauty and fashion. Kim Kardashian's influence on young people's fashion and beauty choices exists whether you like it or not - and she's not the only Kardashian with this power.
Recently, a rumor hit the blogosphere that another Kardashian clan member, Kylie Jenner, used CandyLipz to get her big, pouty lip look. The lip-enhancing product was mentioned on The Insider with Yahoo! as a possible reason for Jenner's seemingly dramatic lip change.
Unhappy with her “little lips”, Brittany Forster decided to try out the product for herself. Forster videoed her trial of the product and posted the experience on YouTube.
The results were not at all what she had in mind for herself.
The product plumps up lips using suction or a “cupping” technique. Because it has been tested and is designed with lip shape in mind, it can help create the appearance of fuller lips. To use it, a “conditioning” period of 7 to 10 days must be undertaken first. This helps the lips acclimate to the suction process, which can leave cupping marks or bruising.
The company reports that the product can be used as much as is desired and will not result in sagging lips down the road. This is due to the effects of the partial oxygen deprivation the device creates.
Unlike cosmetic surgery, CandyLipz gives users a temporary result. The product website claims that the results will appear in two minutes and will last for about 2 hours, though individual results may vary.
BuzzFeed reports that Forster's results lasted into the next day. However, the day after that her lips were back to their normal size, but were “still a little blue and bruised.”
While Jenner's “lipgate” rages on, for girls and young women wanting to emulate her big, pouty lip look, non-surgical means of replication such as with CandyLipz, lip-plumping “hacks” and make-up tricks may be right way to test-drive the look on themselves.
For those interesting in trying out CandyLipz - you're temporarily out of luck.
