The Super Bowl champion New England Patriots visited the White House on Thursday, to meet with President Obama and show off their fancy, new rings.
President Obama gave a speech and fired off a joke about the Patriots' “deflate gate” scandal, saying:
“I usually tell a bunch of jokes at these events, but with the Patriots in town, I was worried that 11 out of 12 of them would fall flat.”
His joke prompted a less than favorable response from the champs:
But after the ceremony, tight end Rob Gronkowski was asked if there was any alcohol involved in the ceremony.
He then suggested the President was actually a little tipsy:
“No, there’s no drinking. Maybe the president was getting wasted, from his 'Deflate' joke.”
There's no evidence to support Gronkowski's claim that the President was actually under the influence of alcohol. Obama does have his own beer recipe, called “White House Honey Ale,” which is brewed inside the President's home.
All of the New England Patriots attended the White House ceremony, except for one.
