Angel or demon? Or something else entirely?

That's the question sweeping across the globe in the wake of a strange and eerie photograph that's gone viral, sparking some rather interesting discussion.

It all started when on January 1st, Arizona resident Robert Christianson posted to Facebook a picture showing a blurry but enormous object on the street at night with the caption:

“What the hell do you see in this picture for reals ??? Anybody.”

The post has since been deleted, but that hasn't stopped the picture itself from garnering over 100,000 views.

The picture, which shows a large, shadowy figure standing in an abandoned street at night, has been the subject of fiery debate among those who have viewed and shared it.

Opinions varied as to what was in the picture, but the overwhelming opinion seems to be that Christianson captured a real live demon on camera.

Commenters on the original Facebook post were quick to weigh in, some skeptics:

“Richard it’s a damn palm tree and you use tried making this s**t famous but it’s not working.”

While many more on the comment thread were sure it was but one thing — a soldier of hell sent to kickstart the apocalypse:

“Looks like a frontline demon!! Where this at?”

“But with the EVIL days we live in now, what if it is a demon wreaking evil deeds all around us? Whether you want to believe it or not, these are the END TIMES.”

“We are in end times. Any evilness can pop up.”

Meanwhile, Twitter has provided some slightly more outside-the-box hypotheses...and general commentary on the photo:

Christianson has not offered further comment on the photo he shared, but it sure has stimulated some interesting chatter.
