Another day, another Democrat plan to undo the presidency of Donald Trump.
Yesterday, Independent Journal Review reported on CNN contributor Sally Kohn's 5-step plan to separate Trump from his presidency, and install Hillary Clinton in the Oval Office.
Today's episode involves veteran Hollywood actor Mia Farrow, and her plan to bring down Trump's “insane, insulting wall” before it's built, if not Trump himself.
Farrow says she will refuse pay federal taxes in defiance of Trump:
She failed to mention whether she'll stop paying federal income taxes altogether, or simply attach a note to her tax return, informing the IRS that none of her tax payments are to be used to fund Trump's wall.
Famed feminist activist Gloria Steinem, who recently warned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that his “days are numbered,” after he stopped Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) from impugning Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) on the floor of the Senate, has also joined the cause.
In an email to The Guardian, Steinem said this won't be her first tax-revolt rodeo.
“In 1968, we refused to pay the 10% of our Federal income tax dollars that funded the war in Vietnam, and included a letter to the IRS saying so.
I’m going to do this again by sending what I think should go to Planned Parenthood, deducting it from my Federal IRS return, and including a letter saying so.
Though it’s a smaller sum than Vietnam, we won’t just be keeping it or using some to pay for expensive NYT ads, and can add whatever each of us is able to in order to support Planned Parenthood.”
The plan by Farrow and Steinem is part of a larger effort by the “National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee” (NWTRCC) to thwart Trump.
In an opening salvo on its website, NWTRCC throws down the gauntlet against Trump:
There has been renewed interest in war tax resistance following Trump’s inauguration. Something has clicked in the minds of thousands of people across the country… we don’t want to pay for Trump’s agenda!
While many of the reasons people are fed up—extreme militarism, mass incarceration, police brutality, and mass deportations—are part of the foundation of our country, it is exciting to see many new people contacting NWTRCC and wanting to organize in their communities.
NWTRCC even printed a nifty pamphlet, encouraging people to “stop paying for war”:
In December, Time published a column titled “65 Million Americans Should Threaten to Not Pay Their Taxes” — aimed squarely at those who voted for Hillary Clinton.
The author, who said a tax revolt would “put Republicans on notice,” droned on about the “undemocratic” notion of Trump losing the popular vote, but winning the presidency via the Electoral College.
Even the entire state of California is looking into ways to “cut off the fed,” by suspending financial transfers to the federal government, as reported by CBS San Francisco.
Former Speaker of the State Assembly, Willie Brown explained the “plan”:
“California could very well become an organized non-payer. They could recommend non-compliance with the federal tax code.”
Chances are, none of these plans are going to end well.
But the point is once again proved that the pre-election admonition from a “horrified” Hillary Clinton that Trump, and presumably everyone, should accept the election outcome, fell on deaf Democrat ears — including her own.
Then again, not in their worst nightmare did they anticipate President Donald J. Trump.
