Regardless of their level of involvement in politics, many Americans were at least aware that House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) planned to hold a vote on March 24 on the American Health Care Act, President Trump's plan to replace Obamacare.
By afternoon, however, it was clear that Republicans did not have the the votes to pass the bill — so Ryan pulled the bill from the schedule.
In the hours following the bill's failure, attentions turned to the other news of the day: March Madness. But sports fans and distraction-seeking political junkies alike were treated to an unfortunate error when several right-leaning markets accidentally aired commercials thanking the Republicans.
And while there were a number of hardline conservatives who were thanking members of the House Freedom Caucus who had led the internal fight against the bill, that's not who these ads featured.
Instead, they thanked Representatives Barbara Comstock (R-VA), David Young (R-IA), David Valadao (R-CA), Darrell Issa (R-CA), and Will Hurd (R-TX) for “replacing Obamacare with better healthcare” — something that didn't actually happen.
The ads were created by the pro-Trump PAC American Action Network.
