Fox News icon Bill O'Reilly stopped by “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday morning to chat with the crew. While there, he managed to create a bit of a controversy.
As co-host Ainsley Earhardt introduced a clip of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) questioning the patriotism of supporters of President Trump, O'Reilly laughed and interrupted:
“I love her. Maxine Waters should have her own sitcom. People get angry with Maxine Waters — I want more of it.”
As the clip played, O'Reilly couldn't contain himself, mocking Waters in a side shot. But when it was over, he really let loose.
“I didn’t hear a word,“ he laughed, ”I was looking at the James Brown Wig."
Earhardt jumped in to at least pretend to defend Waters:
“I have to defend her on that. You can’t go after a woman. Plus, I think she’s very attractive.”
Setting aside Maxine's attractiveness, O'Reilly quickly pivoted — sort of:
“She’s a sincere individual, whatever she says she believes. I love you Maxine. I want to see you on 'The Factor,' and when hell freezes over, I’m sure that will happen.”
On that final point — hell freezing over — Mr. Bill was most likely right.
UPDATE [3/29/2017, 9:57 p.m. EST]: O'Reilly issued the following statement: “As I have said many times, I respect Congresswoman Maxine Waters for being sincere in her beliefs. I said that again today on Fox & Friends calling her 'old school.' Unfortunately, I also made a jest about her hair which was dumb. I apologize.”
