President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will spend Mother’s Day at the White House. But on Friday they celebrated a little early.

The First Couple welcomed dozens of special guests to the East Room:

The president gave a few remarks about the gathering:

And then he handed off the podium to First Lady Melania Trump with a peck:

She then commemorated National Military Spouse Appreciation Day and welcomed the dozens and dozens of women — military mothers and spouses — whose sons, mothers, and fathers are serving in armed forces.

CNN reports that it was only the third time that she’s publicly spoken. She told those gathered:

"I, too, am a mother. However, I have no idea what kind of different challenges each of you must face as the parent of a soldier. And while you stand with many other parents so strong and so proud, I am sure that you sometimes march on this journey alone.

While your sons and daughters are away serving so selflessly, having a community share even some of that burden must make all the difference in the world. I want you to know you're among that community today and we are all so proud to be part of it with you.

I also want to say thank you for all that you do for your selflessness and for your own sacrifice on behalf of our country."

Then as she began receiving applause, the First Lady said and “God bless America” and the place exploded with cheers:

Those gathered enjoyed a performance by the U.S. Army Chorus:

And the First Lady thanked the chorus before she left:

The moment wasn’t special just for the Moms and wives:

But the First Lady said she thought it was, too:

President Trump remarked that “it is your sacrifice that protects our nation, safeguards our liberties and makes sure our beautiful American flag always waves proudly above our very glorious land.”

The First Couple will remain in D.C. this weekend, but the White House isn’t revealing any more details about how Mother’s Day at the Trump household will be celebrated.
